Found in the South of France this Mid 1800s French Walnut Monastery Table features a thick wide plank top. The large table is supported by a long trestle style base with hourglass shaped legs ending with wedge pins and wide shoe feet. The hand carved top presents excellent joinery and craftsmanship that showcases the rich dark walnut woodgrain. Monastery tables were originally used as dining tables in monasteries during Medieval times. Depending on the size of the refectory (dining hall), multiple tables could be lined up for the monks to eat while one of the clerics read scripture from an elevated pulpit.
