Found in the South of France, this Mid 19th Century Faux Bamboo Giltwood Mirror was handcrafted by French artisans in the Napoleon III style dating back to the mid 1800’s. The piece features an intricately carved crown depicting a realistic grape and vine leaf motif. This pattern continues on the sides and bottom of the mirror with the frame being faux bamboo. The entire piece is finished in gold gilt. Red oxidation shows through the beautiful water gold gilded patina that is original to the piece. The unique appearance of the original antique mirror glass and its imperfections add charm and character that is impossible to achieve with new mirror glass. The back is finished with wooden slats that have been reinforced with screws at some point in the mirros lifetime. This stunning Mid 19th Century Napoleon III Faux Bamboo Giltwood Mirror is an exceptional example of French decorative art.
