This 19th Century English Brass Fireplace Box dates back to the late 1800’s. Often called a Coal Scuttle, the piece features a traditional sarcophagus form exhibiting the classic Greek key design with a distinctively tiered, domed lift-off lid. Crafted with drop-ring side handles for ease of mobility the box rest on heavy cast-brass feet. The top opens to reveal a removable inner metal container with handles to remove the coal or kindling. The brass box shows signs of wear from years of use which only adds to the charm of the piece. This Late 19th Century English Brass Fireplace Box or Coal Scuttle with its warm aged brass patina was historically placed beside the hearth, but today can also be used as a stunning display piece or vessel for arrangements.
