This 20th Century English Brass Fireplace Box dates back to the early 1900’s.. Often called a Coal Scuttle, the piece features a Neoclassical style aesthetic, characterized by its rectangular form, fluted corner pillars, and an elegant draped floral swag or festoon relief on the front. Crafted from brass with copper accents the box exhibits detailed cast-metal handles for ease of mobility and rest on ornate feet. The top opens to reveal a removable inner metal container with handles to remove the coal or kindling. The brass box shows signs of wear from years of use which only adds to the charm of the piece. This Early 20th Century English Brass Fireplace Box or Coal Scuttle with its warm aged brass patina was historically placed beside the hearth, but today can also be used as a stunning display piece or vessel for arrangements.
