This 20th Century Hotel Silver Silverplate Serving Bowl was manufactured by R. Wallace and produced for the Southern Hotel Baltimore. Over the years, the Wallace companies had three names: R. Wallace & Sons (1856), Wallace Brothers Silver Company (1856-1884) and Wallace Silversmiths (founded 1875). The underside is hallmarked R. Wallace, 0374, Silver Sodered, Southern Hotel Baltimore. The piece features a beautiful embossed design along the upper rim. Highly collectable, hotel silver is a very heavy silver plate, usually triple plated over another type of metal to make it durable for hotel and commercial use. This serving bowl has been used and loved through the years, showing wear to the interior and exterior, the imperfections add to the patina.
