This 19th Century English Walnut Tunbridge Ware Writing Box was crafted in the late 1800’s. Tunbridge Ware is characterized by detailed inlaid patterns, often geometric, crafted from thousands of tiny pieces of natural-colored woods. The piece features its original working lock and key and opens to reveal a red fabric writing surface that opens on both sides for ample storage. The piece exhibits several storage areas that once housed pens and writing supplies. Beneath the front storage areas, the box showcases a group of hidden drawers that that can be accessed by opening a spring loaded panel. The writing box does show some signs of wear from years of use which only adds to its old world charm.
