This pair of 19th Century English Oak Open Barley Twist Candlesticks date back to the late 1800’s. Each candlestick features an open twist (also known as double or hollow helix), where two separate strands of wood spiral around an open center space. The tops are fitted with stamped brass bobeches or drip cups to securely hold the candles and catch melting wax. The candlesticks are finished with a round hand-turned base. The bottom of each base has been lined to protect its resting surface.
